Brake Springs

The extension spring assembly on the parking brake system controls the neutral state of the caliper arm. This is accomplished from factory settings where there is a set preload on the spring in its normal state. The preload ensures that continuous force keeps the caliper arm engaged. In addition, there is the ability to adjust the brake holding force by adjusting the spring.

Brake Calipers

The Pro-Turn 600 uses cam style calipers secured to a disc brake system. The calipers are engaged when the parking brake is set by pulling on the caliper arms, which are activated by spring assemblies. When the caliper arm is pulled rearward, the cam in the caliper rotates to engage the brake pads with the rotor.

Brake Activation Linkage

The brake activation linkages connect the brake weldment and front cross-shaft to the rear cross-shaft and springs. When the parking brake is pulled to be set, the activation linkages will pull forward using a cam feature to rotate the rear cross-shaft and extend the spring assembly.

Eccentric

There are eccentrics on each side of the brake system which are mounted to the steering control linkages and are used to set mechanical neutral for the unit. This is a part of the parking brake interlock system. With the parking brake fully engaged, the brake interlock should align with the eccentric. If out of alignment, mechanical neutral needs to be adjusted by adjusting the eccentric.

Brake Hub

The Pro-Turn 600 uses a disc style brake hub that mounts onto the output shaft of the transaxles. The rotor on the hub will remain in place with the caliper pads when the parking brake is engaged. In order to remove the brake hub, you will need to remove the cotter pin, retaining nut, and use a 5-hole hub puller. Be cautious upon removal with the caliper pads to ensure they do not fall out.
